Overview
If you’ve selected a Matter folder or created a new Matter but don’t see it immediately in your Matter List, don’t worry. In most cases, this simply means LawY is still ingesting your Matter.
When you select a folder:
The folder becomes a Matter – The selected folders will be processed as a “Matter” in your Matter List.
Document ingestion begins – LawY starts ingesting the documents for each Matter in the background. Depending on the number and size of documents, this process can take some time.
⏳ Note: The Matter may appear before all documents are fully ingested. This is expected behavior, and the documents will become available once the ingestion process completes.
Common Reasons & What to Expect
1. Ingestion Time After Selecting Matters
When you select folders (matters) from your storage provider e.g OneDrive or SharePoint, Dropbox or Google Drive, they are not always going to be available instantly in LawY.
LawY needs time to:
Process the selected folders
Add them to your Matter List
Start ingestion documents
⏳ What to do: LawY will need a few minutes to complete the ingestion process. There’s no need to refresh your browser. Matters and its documents will appear automatically once ready.
2. Newly Created Folders Not Appearing
If you’ve just created a new folder in your storage provider (e.g. OneDrive, SharePoint), it may not appear immediately in LawY and this is expected behaviour.
This happens because both your storage provider and LawY rely on background syncing processes, which don’t update instantly. When a folder is created:
The storage provider needs time to sync, index, and process the new folder
The sync client (e.g. OneDrive) must detect the change and queue it
LawY then needs to pick up and process that update before it appears as a Matter
Because of this, newly created folders can take several minutes (or longer in some cases) to appear in your Matter List or become fully available.
⏳ What to do: Allow some time for the folder to sync and be processed. There’s no need to take further action. The Matter will appear automatically once everything is ready.
3. Reconnecting or Re-selecting Matters Too Quickly
It might be tempting to disconnect your storage or reselect matters when they don’t appear right away,but this can actually make things worse.
Repeating these actions can:
Restart the processing from the beginning
Increase system load
Potentially cause errors or delays
⚠️ What to avoid: Do not repeatedly disconnect and reconnect your storage or reselect the same matters.

✅ Select your matters once
✅ Allow time for processing and ingestion
✅ Check again after a short wait
Still Not Showing?
If your matters still don’t appear after a reasonable amount of time:
Try refreshing the page
Log out and back in
If the issue continues, contact our support with details of the matter/folder name
