What This Article Helps You Do
This article explains the differences between Automatic and Manual selection once you have connected your Storage Provider (OneDrive or SharePoint, Dropbox or Google Drive) in LawY. Understanding how both options works will help you choose the right setup for your Firm.
1. Choosing Automatic or Manual Import
When you first connect your storage (e.g. OneDrive or SharePoint, Dropbox, Google Drive), you’ll be asked to choose between:
Automatic
Manual
Each option determines how your folders are interpreted and displayed as Matters in LawY.
2. Automatic Import
How it works:
CORTO automatically detects subfolders within your selected directory
Each subfolder is treated as a separate Matter
Example:
If your main folder contains multiple subfolders (e.g. one per client), LawY will:
Create a separate Matter for each subfolder
Organise documents accordingly
When to use Automatic:
When each subfolder represents a different Matter
When you want LawY to organise Matters for you
When working with structured client folders
3. Manual Import
How it works:
You manually select a folder to import
The selected folder is treated as one single Matter
All files and subfolders inside are grouped under that one Matter
Example:
If you select a folder that contains multiple subfolders (e.g. 10 subfolders) and inside each of those subfolders there are 10 documents. LawY will:
It'll only appear as One/Single Matter in LawY, it will not split the subfolders into separate Matters, that is the expected behaviour for Manual Import
Include all documents from all subfolders within that single Matter
When to use Manual:
When you want everything grouped into one Matter
When your folder represents a single case or project
When you want full control over which folders are imported
4. Key Takeaway
Manual Selection = One folder → One Matter
Automatic Import = Subfolders → Multiple Matters
Choosing the correct option depends on how your folders are structured.
