Import Matter and Quick Create

What This Article Helps You Do

This article explains the difference between Import Matter and Quick Create under the + New Matter button in LawY. It will help you understand when to use each option and how they affect matter creation and document integration.

1. Overview

LawY provides two ways to create Matters:

  • Import Matter (via connected document storage)

  • Quick Create Matter (manual creation within LawY)

Each option supports different workflows depending on whether your document storage is connected.

2. Import Matter

Import Matter is used when your document storage (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive) is connected.

How it works:

  • Matters are created by selecting folders from your storage provider

  • Documents are automatically ingested into LawY

  • Each Matter is linked to a corresponding folder in your storage system

When to use:

  • You already have your documents organised in a storage system

  • You want to import new Folders into your Matter List.

3. Quick Create

Quick Create allows you to manually create a new Matter folder in your Storage Provider directly in LawY

How it works:

  • Click + New Matter → Quick Create

  • Matter details:

    • Enter Matter Name

    • Select State and Matter Type

  • Select your Folder Location

  • Click Create

  • The Matter is created in LawY

When to use:

  • You want to start legal research immediately

  • You want to create a Matter quickly without setup steps

4. Key Difference

  • Import Matter = Folder-based + fully integrated with document storage

  • Quick Create = Manual Matter setup without documents

5. Summary

Use Import Matter when your documents are already stored and organised externally.

Use Quick Create when you want to quickly start a Matter and add documents or connect storage later.
