LEAP AI Calculator Tool Release Notes

Release Notes: 25 June 2026

AI Calculator Tool

The AI Calculator is a new capability in the Corto Agent that translates lawyers’ plain-language instructions into clear, accurate calculations of monetary amounts, rates, percentages, and other figures. It highlights the inputs and assumptions used, making each result easy to understand, verify, and rely on.

It closes the gap between an "AI-generated figure" and a "legally defensible figure" by keeping AI and arithmetic strictly separate: the AI interprets your instructions and surfaces assumptions; a deterministic engine performs the calculation itself.

Why It Matters

  • Determinism. Same inputs, same specification, same result; every time, to the stated precision. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, there's no risk of a different plausible-looking number on a second run.

  • Speed. What takes 20–40 minutes to build and check in a spreadsheet takes less time than minutes here.

What It Calculates

The AI Calculator Tool supports common legal calculations and reconciliations, such as:

  • Pre-judgment interest on damages, based on the principal amount, relevant date range, and applicable rate, including statutory rates.

  • Economic loss, using the figures, periods, rates, and assumptions provided.

  • Settlement and property pool distributions, including:

  • line items with descriptions, amounts, and optional categories;

  • verified totals and category subtotals that reconcile exactly;

  • proposed percentage distributions that total exactly 100%; and

  • transparent treatment of rounding differences, with any residual clearly identified for allocation rather than silently added to a party’s share.

  • Estate reconciliations, including the calculation and reconciliation of assets, liabilities, distributions, and balances.

  • Balance sheets and property schedules, with categorised line items, category subtotals, and an overall total that reconciles exactly, for example, a family law property settlement schedule.

Note: Where the information provided cannot produce a valid result: for example, distribution allocations that exceed the pool total; execution is blocked and the specific conflict is explained rather than an approximate figure being returned.

How to Use It

  1. Describe the calculation in plain language or select a calculation type from the menu.

  2. The Agent performs the calculation, automatically using the Calculator Tool whenever the requested output requires it. The calculation step is shown in the Agent’s activity.

  3. Review the result, including the formula, inputs, intermediate steps, and assumptions, alongside the final figure.
